A French official received an eight-month prison sentence on Monday for falsifying his resume to secure a high-ranking municipal job. The tribunal in Dunkirk (Nord) proceeded with the case despite the 44-year-old Marseillais man’s request for a postponement due to an inner ear problem, a decision reported by The Voice of the North.
The man was hired as general director of services at the town hall of Téteghem-Coudekerque-Village (North) in September 2023. His submission boasted “24 years of professional life in the national and territorial public service within large institutions and in the private sector,” according to Provence.
Alleged Repeat Offense in Tarn-et-Garonne
the former official claimed to possess a doctorate in public law, along with masters 1 and 2 degrees in public law and local authority law, and a master’s degree in history. The municipality initially hired him based on these credentials. However, employees and elected officials quickly noticed a troubling pattern of incompetence. The mayor stated he made “errors” and concealed files “as he was not capable of processing them,” alongside letters filled with mistakes.
When questioned, the University of Aix-Marseille confirmed the man had never earned a doctorate, only completing a master’s degree in law after obtaining his license. The municipality filed a complaint, leading to his dismissal for serious misconduct eight months after his appointment. Following this, he allegedly submitted the same fraudulent CV for a general director of services position in golfech (Tarn-et-Garonne). An inquiry into these new allegations is currently underway.
