FRESNO, Calif. – The Utah State University men’s golf team begins its spring season this week, traveling to Fresno, California, to compete in The Watney Invitational at the San Joaquin Country Club on Monday and Tuesday, March 2-3. This marks the first competitive action for the Aggies since concluding their fall schedule.
The two-day tournament will feature a shotgun start each day, with 36 holes played on Monday beginning at 9:00 a.m. Mountain Time, and a final 18 holes on Tuesday starting at 9:15 a.m. MT. Fans can follow the action live through scoring updates available at scoreboard.clippd.com.
The Watney Invitational boasts a competitive 14-team field alongside the Aggies and host Fresno State. Participating schools include Cal Baptist, CSU Northridge, CS Fullerton, Idaho, Nevada, Pacific, Sacramento State, Seattle, Southern Utah, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, and Utah Valley. The diverse lineup promises a challenging start to the spring season for Utah State.
Aggies’ Lineup for Fresno State Invitational
Utah State Head Coach Dean Duncan has announced the five golfers who will represent the team in Fresno. Sophomore Noah Moody of Vineyard, Utah, will lead the team. He will be joined by sophomore Chase Goetschel (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.), freshman Zach Skinner (Providence, Utah), senior Luis Cantu (Monterrey, Mexico), and sophomore Toby Heider (Kimberly, Idaho).
Looking Back at the Fall Season
The Aggies concluded their fall campaign having participated in five tournaments. They secured a pair of top-10 finishes, highlighted by a tie for sixth place at the Air Force-hosted Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational. Chase Goetschel emerged as a consistent performer during the fall, leading the team with a stroke average of 73.07 across 15 rounds. Noah Moody wasn’t far behind, posting a stroke average of 73.20 over the same number of rounds. Luis Cantu (73.78), Toby Heider (74.80), and Zach Skinner (75.20) rounded out the team’s scoring efforts.
Tournament Details
The Watney Invitational will be played at the San Joaquin Country Club in Fresno, California. The course is set at a par of 71 and stretches 7,051 yards. The tournament provides a valuable opportunity for the Aggies to assess their game and build momentum as they navigate the remainder of the spring season.
