LONDON, June 26, 2024 – UTA, the global talent and entertainment firm, saw a substantial 67 percent revenue jump in its U.K.operations, reaching £77.0 million ($104.0 million) for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2024. This surge signals a successful expansion strategy, particularly within the competitive U.K. market.

UTA UK Revenue Soars, Despite Widening Losses

The talent agency’s U.K. arm experienced notable growth, fueled by a key acquisition and strategic investments, even as operating losses increased.

  • UTA UK revenue climbed to £77.0 million ($104.0 million) in fiscal year 2024.
  • The revenue increase was largely driven by the acquisition of Representatives of Outstanding Footballers (ROOF).
  • Operating losses widened to £34.6 million ($46.7 million) due to acquisition costs and investments.
  • The firm is actively pursuing further acquisitions to bolster its diversified business.

The financial results, filed with Companies House, reflect a period of dynamic change for UTA UK, which encompasses the firm’s business across Europe, the middle East, and Africa. While the fiscal year 2024 included two additional months compared to the previous period, the primary driver of growth was the June 2024 acquisition of Representatives of Outstanding Footballers (ROOF), a leading agency in European soccer player representation.

Strategic Acquisitions and Expansion Efforts

Despite the extraordinary revenue gains, UTA UK’s operating loss widened to £34.6 million ($46.7 million) from £11.3 million the prior year. this increase is attributed to expenses related to the ROOF acquisition, integration costs, and ongoing investments in growth initiatives. UTA believes the combination of ROOF and its existing Klutch sports business positions it as a major player in the global sports arena, extending beyond its customary strengths in U.S. basketball.

What is UTA’s long-term strategy in the U.K.? UTA is doubling down on London as its international hub, confident in the financial and strategic benefits of diversification into new areas like creator businesses and sports representation.

UTA has been on an acquisition spree over the past decade, acquiring more than 20 companies globally to diversify its offerings across talent management, music, theatre, comedy, creators, sports, brands, news, books, film, television, and speakers.UTA UK’s portfolio of acquisitions includes The Agency Group, MediaLink, Curtis Brown, and ROOF, each at varying stages of integration.

Looking Ahead: Continued growth and Investment

The company’s U.K.filing indicated a continued appetite for strategic acquisitions, stating,”The group continues to look for complementary opportunities to grow its business.” In 2023, UTA invested in a Central London office to facilitate its expansion across Europe, the Middle East, and africa.

Last summer, Darnell Strom was appointed head of UTA’s U.K. office in London. Strom previously represented high-profile clients including Malala Yousafzai, michaela Coel, and the creators of the BBC/HBO series Industry, Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, and has also worked with former U.S. Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.
