Navy MenS Soccer Fights to 2-2 Draw Against Longwood in Non-Conference Finale
The Navy Midshipmen demonstrated resilience, battling back from multiple deficits to secure a 2-2 draw against Longwood in their final non-conference match of the season.
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy men’s soccer team (3-6-6) concluded its non-conference schedule with a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Longwood (2-8-4) tuesday night at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. The Midshipmen showcased determination, twice leveling the scoreline with goals from senior players, setting a positive tone as they prepare for Patriot League competition.
The match saw early action from Navy goalkeeper Robert Eaton, who denied an attempt from Aaron Bruening in the 18th minute. The Midshipmen nearly took the lead shortly after, but a potential goal was disallowed due to an offsides call following a blocked shot and subsequent rebound header. Eaton continued to prove crucial, making two additional saves in the 20th and 23rd minutes.
Longwood broke the deadlock in the 28th minute, with Jesus Macaya capitalizing on a pass from Brando Bedolla and assisting Syrus Conolly for the opening goal. However, Navy responded just before halftime, as Andrew Schug scored in the 42nd minute, leveling the score after a well-executed play involving alex Galloway and Keane Brown. Navy almost took the lead before the break, but a shot from Luke Parker hit the crossbar with only 30 seconds remaining.
The second half saw Longwood regain the lead in the 59th minute,with Ezrah Serralde scoring after a defensive miscue. Undeterred,Navy once again found an equalizer in the 68th minute. A free kick led to a cross from Will Cawlfield, finding Tommy Lockhart who finished the chance, tying the game at 2-2.
Both teams continued to press for a winner, with goalkeepers Max Hinke and Eaton making key saves. Hinke finished the night with five saves, while Eaton recorded three. A late prospect for Navy came in the 89th minute from Stephen nelson, but his shot went just wide.
“The guys played well tonight and showed resolve by coming back twice,” said Head Coach Tim O’Donohue. “We had some good chances to win it, as a ton of young guys played very well and our seniors provided good leadership on and off the pitch. This was good prep for these last three Patriot League games on the horizon, and we have to play it one game at a time over this final stretch.”
