WASHINGTON, 2026-02-13 23:29:00 —

U.S. lawmakers have requested testimony from former British cabinet minister Peter Mandelson as part of an ongoing investigation into the operations of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

  • Robert Garcia and Suhas Subramanyam, members of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, have requested Mandelson’s testimony.
  • The lawmakers cite Mandelson’s “extensive social and business ties” to Epstein as the reason for the request.
  • Mandelson is currently under investigation by the Metropolitan Police for alleged misconduct in a public office related to Epstein.

Peter Mandelson has been asked to testify before the U.S. Congress regarding his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, according to a letter from Representatives Robert Garcia and Suhas Subramanyam. The request for a transcribed interview stems from the committee’s investigation into Epstein’s operations.

The letter, addressed to Mandelson, states that despite no longer serving as British ambassador to the United States or as a member of the House of Lords, he “possessed extensive social and business ties to Jeffrey Epstein and hold[s] critical information pertaining to our investigation of Epstein’s operations.” Lawmakers are seeking his insights given “the appalling allegations regarding Epstein’s conduct.”

The committee members noted instances where Mandelson appeared in or was mentioned within the 3.5 million documents released in recent weeks related to Epstein. Mandelson has until the end of the month to respond to the request.

Separate Investigation Underway

This request for testimony comes as Mandelson is also being investigated by the Metropolitan Police for alleged misconduct in a public office. The investigation centers on allegations that he passed market-sensitive information to Epstein while serving as Business Secretary in Gordon Brown’s government in 2009. Police have searched two properties linked to Mandelson as part of this investigation, though he has denied any criminal wrongdoing.

Garcia and Subramanyam previously requested testimony from Prince Andrew in 2023, but he did not respond to the committee’s interview request in November. His failure to respond prompted Keir Starmer to state that individuals with “relevant information” should come forward.

Mandelson recently resigned from the House of Lords and relinquished his membership in the Labour Party earlier this month, citing his connections to Epstein. He was also removed from his position as U.S. ambassador in September due to his past associations with the disgraced financier.
