In Heidelberg, authorities discovered the bodies of two individuals, including a pregnant woman, on the campus of Heidelberg High School Friday night, coinciding with the school’s homecoming football game. An 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged with two counts of murder and illegal possession of a firearm on school grounds, according to Jasper County Jail records. Heidelberg, a community of approximately 640 residents, is located roughly 85 miles southeast of Jackson.
Later, on Saturday evening, a shooting on the Alcorn State University campus in Claiborne County left three people with gunshot wounds, one of whom succumbed to their injuries. The incident occurred after a crowd of over 7,000 spectators attended Alcorn State’s homecoming game against Lincoln University of Oakland, California. No arrests have been announced in connection with this shooting.
Further complicating the weekend’s events, police responded to a shooting at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson around 7 p.m. Saturday,where Jackson State University was hosting Alabama State University. A juvenile was shot in the abdomen and transported to a hospital. Details surrounding this incident remain scarce, and no arrests have been made.
