New Animation Unveiled for ‘Battle of Tokyo’ Ahead of January Screenings

A new animation sequence has been released as part of the promotional campaign for Live in Theater: Battle of Tokyo -Utsukushiki Uso, set to premiere in Japanese theaters on January 23. The project, a sprawling “mixed reality entertainment” initiative from LDH Japan, continues to expand its universe with this latest visual offering.

The animation debuted on Wednesday via the official YouTube channel for the Battle of Tokyo project.

Expanding the ‘Battle of Tokyo’ Universe

LDH Japan, the entertainment company renowned for managing the EXILE dance and vocal unit and its associated groups, launched the Battle of Tokyo project in 2019. The project centers around idol groups GENERATIONS, THE RAMPAGE, FANTASTICS BALLISTIK BOYZ, and PSYCHIC FEVER – collectively known as the “Jr.EXILE Generation” – and their corresponding character counterparts. These characters inhabit a complex narrative set across two distinct worlds: the real-world metropolis of Shin Tokyo (New Tokyo) and the fantastical realm of Chō Tokyo (Super Tokyo).

The newly established LDH Animation brand is responsible for the animation sequences. The voice cast includes Yūki Kaji as ZERO, Stay if you want as SherRock, and Tomokazu Sugita as both the Keeper of the Online Palace and the project’s narrator.

A Multi-Platform Entertainment Experience

Battle of Tokyo has already generated significant content, including five albums, five novel volumes, a manga adaptation, and numerous live concerts. Live in Theater: Battle of Tokyo -Utsukushiki Uso will combine footage from these concerts with music videos and the newly previewed animation short.

According to a company release, the project aims to create a deeply immersive experience for fans. One analyst noted that the integration of multiple media formats – live performance, animation, literature, and music – is a key differentiator for Battle of Tokyo in the competitive Japanese entertainment landscape.

The project’s success demonstrates a growing trend toward transmedia storytelling, where narratives are expanded across various platforms to engage audiences in new and innovative ways. The January screenings promise to offer fans a unique opportunity to experience the full scope of the Battle of Tokyo universe.
