Artist Barrie kaufman to Share Arctic Journey Through Multimedia Presentation in Auvillar

A captivating glimpse into the Arctic awaits attendees in Auvillar, France, as artist Barrie Kaufman prepares to present a narrated slideshow detailing her recent expedition to the remote region. Kaufman, currently an artist in residence at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (VCCA), will share her experiences aboard a ship carrying a diverse group of 30 writers, scientists, artists, and composers.

Barrie Kaufman is a West Virginia-based artist whose work spans multiple mediums, including painting, printmaking, glass, and ceramic sculpture. Her artistic achievements have garnered international recognition,with exhibitions at prestigious venues such as Sotheby’s in Stockholm,Sweden. She was honored with the Taipei Mayor’s Prize at the taipei Biennial International Printmaking and Drawing Exhibition in Taiwan and received the Presse Papier grant for visiting artists in Trois-Rivières, quebec.

Kaufman’s dedication to her craft has been consistently supported through prestigious fellowships and residencies. She is a two-time recipient of the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation Fellowship for residencies at the virginia Center for the Creative Arts, having been awarded the fellowship in both 2018 and 2009.Further enriching her artistic development, kaufman has participated in multiple residencies at Moulin à nef in 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2025, and completed an Arctic Circle residency in Svalbard, Norway, in July 2025.
