Chile Launches Massive Free Book Distribution Honoring Gabriela Mistral’s Nobel Legacy
A groundbreaking initiative will see 100,000 copies of a new poetic anthology by Gabriela mistral distributed free of charge across Chile, marking the 80th anniversary of the Chilean poet’s Nobel Prize in Literature. Organizers are calling the effort “the largest delivery of a free book in the history of chile.”
The anthology, titled “The first of ALL,” was compiled by editor Matías Rivas and features illustrations created by children and young people who participated in the “Imagining Gabriela Mistral” drawing contest. the widespread distribution aims to revitalize interest in Mistral’s work and expand her literary legacy throughout the nation.
Nationwide Distribution Begins Wednesday
The book delivery is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, December 17, between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. Copies will be available in the Plazas de Armas of all regional capitals, as well as in the city of Curicó. In the capital city of Santiago, distribution will extend to 23 Metro stations, ensuring accessibility for commuters.
“Our project symbolizes the commitment we have to the cultural advancement of Chile and honors the past ties between our country and Brazil,where Gabriela Mistral received the Nobel Prize in 1945,” stated a representative from Banco Itaú Chile,a key partner in the initiative.
The project is being supported through the Cultural Donations Law via the Cultural Investment Foundation (FINC), and will reach eleven regions of the country. Beyond the initial distribution, readers can review and download a free copy of “The first of ALL” online.This ambitious project underscores Chile’s commitment to celebrating its literary heritage and ensuring Gabriela Mistral’s profound influence continues to resonate for generations to come.
