Latvian Singer Agnesse Aims for Eurovision Glory with Dance-Pop Anthem “Oh My My”
Agnese Stengrevica, known professionally as Agnesse, is poised to compete for a coveted spot in the Eurovision Song Contest with her vibrant new dance-pop track, “Oh My My.” The song is Agnesse’s entry into “Supernova 2026,” the Latvian national selection process, and has already secured a place in the semi-finals.
A Rising Star in Latvian Music
Agnesse’s musical journey began at age 16 with the release of “Best Thing I Never Had,” a collaboration with her father, Helvia Stengrevitz. Since then, she has steadily built a following in Latvia, with her 2018 “Supernova” performance of “You Are My World” bringing her wider recognition. The single “Saku Tev Atā” proved particularly popular, frequently appearing on Radio 5’s “Latvian Music Top 20” program.
Her 2024 mini-album, “Uz Augšu,” showcased a maturing artist exploring themes of personal growth and relationships. Agnesse credits her musical education and professional experiences abroad with shaping her unique sound and artistic vision.
“Supernova 2026”: A Launchpad for Latvian Talent
“Supernova” serves as a crucial platform for emerging Latvian musicians, offering a pathway to international exposure through the Eurovision Song Contest. This year’s competition received a total of 124 submissions, narrowed down by a jury of industry professionals – including experts from Latvia and abroad – to 24 semi-finalists.
The jury’s evaluation criteria prioritize originality, arrangement, lyrical message, and relevance to current music trends, alongside vocal performance and the artist’s potential for a successful international career. The 2026 format includes two semi-finals, scheduled for January 31st and February 7th, culminating in a final on February 14th. Twelve participants will compete in each semi-final, with the top ten advancing to the final, and the possibility of a “wildcard” entry adding an eleventh contender.
“Oh My My”: A Call to the Dance Floor
Described as a “sparkling piece of dance pop,” “Oh My My” is designed to ignite energy and positive emotions. The song’s dynamic rhythm and catchy melody, combined with Agnesse’s confident vocals, create an inviting atmosphere. The composition, a collaborative effort between Agnesse, Jacob Markman, and Gilbert Gauci, is both contemporary and emotionally resonant.
“According to Agnesse, in the process of creating the song, there was a desire to create ‘a new musical explosion that would take over not only Latvia, but the whole of Europe and the world with its sonorous energy.’” This ambition fuels her participation in “Supernova 2026,” as she strives to share her music with a global audience.
