Shalom Obiago Signs with Vault Entertainment Following ‘Christmas in Lagos’ Success
Following a breakout performance in the Prime Video hit Christmas in Lagos, Nigerian-American actor and filmmaker Shalom Obiago has signed with Vault Entertainment for management. The move signals continued momentum for the rising star, whose work bridges the gap between Hollywood and Nollywood.
Prime Video’s Christmas in Lagos, released on December 20, 2023, marked a significant milestone as the first original feature film stemming from the streaming giant’s initial overall filmmaker deal in Nigeria. However, the film’s success was followed by a strategic shift, with Prime Video announcing it would cease funding local original content in Africa and the Middle East. Despite this change, Christmas in Lagos achieved remarkable viewership, quickly reaching No. 1 in Nigeria and appearing in the Top 10 charts in numerous international territories.
The film held deeply personal significance for Obiago, debuting just days before the anniversary of his father’s passing. “My father, Sam Obiago, was an actor himself, and losing him was devastating,” Obiago shared in an interview. “After he died, I dreamed of creating something connecting me to my roots. Christmas in Lagos became the realization of that dream.”
Obiago’s growing resume includes appearances in prominent television series such as Atlanta on FX, BMF on Starz, The Black Hamptons on BET, and P-Valley. His talent has also been recognized on the film festival circuit; his lead role in the short film Don’t Wipe Your Tears, executive produced by John ‘D.C. Young Fly’ Whitfield, garnered a Best Actor nomination at the BronzeLens Film Festival in 2024 – a qualifying festival for the Academy Awards.
This latest development with Vault Entertainment positions Obiago for continued growth and opportunities within the entertainment industry, solidifying his status as a compelling voice in contemporary cinema.
