# Shelbourne Face Uphill Battle for European Knockout Stage Despite Captain’s Resolve
Despite a challenging start to their UEFA Europa Conference League campaign,Shelbourne captain Mark Coyle remains optimistic about his team’s chances of reaching the knockout stages. Consecutive 1-0 defeats have significantly hampered their progression hopes, but Coyle insists the squad is not conceding defeat.
Shelbourne, managed by Joey O’Brien, began their group stage with a commendable draw against Hacken. However, subsequent narrow losses – including a heartbreaking defeat decided by an own goal in stoppage time against KF Shkendija of Macedonia adn a loss to FC Drita of Kosovo – have left them facing a steep climb.

If even one of them goes in,it changes the layout of the game.” He expressed the team’s disappointment, adding, “We are extremely disappointed. We have left three points out there, but we are fed up of the hard luck stories because even the last game away in Shkendija was something similar.”
Coyle firmly believes his team could have secured a victory with a full complement of players. “I really believe with 11 men we were getting three points, but that’s not how football always goes,” he stated. “We have to dust ourselves off and we know we have three massive games coming up.”
Those upcoming fixtures present a formidable test. Shelbourne will travel to the Netherlands to face AZ Alkmaar, featuring Irish international Troy Parrott, on November 27th. They than return to Dublin to host FA Cup holders Crystal Palace on December 11th, before completing their group stage with an away match against Polish club Celje on December 18th.
Currently, Shelbourne occupies the 30th position out of 36 teams in the competition, narrowly ahead of fe
