new Delhi – A disturbing case of reckless endangerment and illegal firearm use has unfolded in Shastri Nagar, Delhi, resulting in the arrest of Mukesh Kumar, 42, and his son, Sumit Kumar, 22. The arrests, made on November 1, 2025, stem from an incident where Sumit Kumar allegedly discharged a firearm into the sky, with his father then sharing footage of the act on Instagram.
According to authorities, the firearm in question was registered to Mukesh Kumar, but the license had expired.”A team of the Anti-Narcotics Cell was conducting regular patrolling in the Shastri Nagar area,” stated North District DCP Raja Bantia. “Around 5 pm, the team received specific information about a social media reel of a youth shooting into the air. Acting on a tip-off, a team quickly reached the shop in Shastri Nagar and found and arrested the accused.”
The motivation behind the act appears to be a desperate pursuit of online notoriety. through social media interactions, Sumit Kumar reportedly confessed to recording the video with the intention of gaining fame. Police recovered the weapon from the family’s residence.
This incident is not isolated, but rather indicative of a concerning trend. Law enforcement officials say there is a growing pattern of individuals misusing social media platforms to attract attention, often at the expense of public safety. The case underscores the potential dangers of seeking validation through risky and illegal online content.
“Such incidents are part of a growing trend,” a senior official stated, “where individuals prioritize online attention over responsible behavior and adherence to the law.”
The father and son are currently facing charges related to violations of the Arms act. This case serves as a stark reminder of the legal and ethical implications of irresponsible gun ownership and the perhaps harmful consequences of seeking validation through dangerous online displays.
